Veneers are finely crafted from either thin pieces of porcelain or composite resin. When bonded to the front surface of your teeth, veneers become incredibly strong and durable, capturing the look you’ve always wanted, with minimal disturbance to your tooth surface.
Porcelain Veneers
The process for porcelain veneers takes three appointments:
- The first appointment is the consultation—at this appointment we will discuss your options and assess your oral health. If you are suffering from gum disease or have cavities, we will need to treat this before placement of veneers.
- The second appointment is when impressions are taken, and a very small amount of enamel is taken from the front of your teeth. Dental veneers are placed on the teeth in your smile zone: the smile zone is the teeth that are visible when you smile. While your porcelain veneers are being fabricated in a lab, we will place temporary veneers to protect your teeth.
- The final appointment is when your temporary veneers are replaced with your porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers are stain resistant and strong: if you look after your veneers (the same as you would for your normal teeth) they can last five to ten years.
Composite Resin Veneers
The process for composite resin veneers takes one appointment. Your tooth is prepared and then a bonding agent is placed on your tooth before the composite resin is added.
Once the composite resin has been shaped and moulded to the desired shape and appearance it is then hardened with a light before being polished. Composite resin veneers are cheaper than porcelain veneers, last four to eight years and are not as strong or stain resistant as porcelain veneers.
